Specialty Fertilisers

Agrow markets for such speciality products as:

- SulFer 95® granular elemental sulphur
- Manganese Sulphate
- Magnesium Sulphate
- Calcium Nitrate
- Potassium Chloride (WSG)
- Potassium Sulphate
- MAP Tech Grade

The idea for the SulFer 95, which is produced by Agrimax, was born in Agrow’s Sydney office 13 years ago and they been instrumental in the development of the elemental plant-nutrient sulphur (PNS) facility in Alberta, Canada. Here, by-product elemental sulphur produced by sour gas plants in the province is processed for agricultural use, providing a value-added product.

The sulphur by-product is delivered to the Agrimax plant by truck in solid form from the gas plant. The product is loaded into hoppers and conveyed to enclosed receiving silos. From the silos, the sulphur is combined with water and a binder and fed into a pelletising system that produces pellets of specified dimensions. After drying, the finished product is stored in weatherproof packaging or bulk storage at site.

At full capacity, Agrimax produces 120,000 t/a of SulFer 95. In addition to developing North America as its principal market, Agrimax’s agreement with Agrow has enabled the company to cultivate Australia and China as increasingly important markets.

SulFer 95 consists of minute particles of elemental sulphur, which, when applied to the crop, are quickly converted to sulphate to meet the needs of the growing crop. It provides a concentrated source of nutrient in a form that is compatible with existing handling, blending and application systems. The supply of S is steadily sustained at all stages of the crop growth, thus helping to ensure high yields. S is a critical component for proper plant nutrition throughout the plant’s growth cycle, and it is particularly important for seed development.

The list of the benefits offered by SulFer 95 is a long one, and includes:

- Early season availability.
- More than 20% available within the first month, thus maximising crop yield potential.
- Season-long sulphate supply.
- The remaining S converts through to crop maturity, helping to ensure maximum seed/fruit development.
- An economical and cost-effective S fertilizer.
- A completely N-free source of S.
- Unlike ammonium sulphate, SulFer 95 can be safely placed with the seed without any concern about toxicity.
- High analysis (95%S).
- Size compatibility with agricultural-grade fertilizers makes it ideal for blending, and segregation is avoided.
